At Team Sunway, we pride ourselves on embodying the four core characteristics of our institution's mascots, Samson and Sophia, the Sun Bears. These characteristics serve as the foundation of our identity and shape our every endeavour.
Sun Bear has a reputation of being a bold animal in the rainforest. In the area of sports especially, we want to have teams and athletes who are strong and powerful, while we believe in fair play, we will also compete courageously and intensity.
Sun Bear is known to be independent, self-reliant and proud. It is usually on its own but interacts well with other Sun Bears. This resonates well with Sunway’s educational goal which calls for our learners to pursue knowledge independently.
Sun Bear does not hibernate, and the female species is known to be exceptional mother to its cubs. It will protect its cubs; teach them the basics of what to eat, where to eat, how to find food and how to cope with the dangers of their environment.
Just as the Sun Bear prepares its cubs to fend for itself, Sunway is an institution that seeks out to nurture and empower its students as we equip and prepare them for their careers.
It is believed that Sun Bear is faithful. This behaviour displays loyalty, a characteristic we want Sunway students to possess.
At Sunway we encourage our students to be loyal, to display integrity and to be individuals who can be relied upon and depended on in times of need.
One of the institution’s prized possessions, our beloved sibling mascots Samson & Sophia make their appearances in many of our public events both internally and externally.
