Swimming with Purpose: A Story of Passion, Growth, and Giving
Swimming competitively has been a part of my life for almost 9 years. The pool is my second home, the water my comfort zone. But my journey as a Sunway student-athlete has been more than just balancing between socialising, studies and breaking personal records—it is about giving back.
Immersing myself in roles like coaching and serving as treasurer for Swimming Club, participating in Leo Club, and contributing to Sunway Sports Council's Branding Team has profoundly shaped my university experience.
One of the most impactful pieces of advice I have received is: “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.” At first, I always believed growth only came through discipline, training, and competition. However, as I immersed myself in opportunities to give back, I realised that true growth comes from helping others and finding answers outside of the pool.
Teaching students at Sunway Swimming Club has given me a sense of fulfilment that goes beyond medals and trophies. Witnessing their progress, seeing their confidence grow, and knowing I played a small role in their journey reminds me why I fell in love with this sport.
Similarly, my involvement in Leo Club has expanded my horizons beyond sports. Contributing to community service projects, fundraising events, and charitable initiatives has helped me understand the impact of collective effort in making a difference. Through these experiences, I have seen firsthand how small acts of kindness can inspire change.
Being awarded the Biasiswa YB Menteri Pengajian Tinggi - Atlet Cemerlang IPT is one of the most prestigious milestones in my journey as a student-athlete. It highlights and acknowledges the hard work and dedication I have put into representing Malaysia in both national and international sports events, including the ASEAN University Games and Sukan Malaysia. This prestigious honour, awarded by the Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, acknowledges student-athletes who have made exceptional contributions both athletically and academically. Receiving this award reaffirms my commitment to swimming and the responsibility I bear to give back to my country and serves as a source of inspiration for all student-athletes actively competing for their universities, states, and Malaysia.
As a member of the Branding Team for Sunway Sports Council, I promote sports culture on campus, organising events and fostering engagement in the sports community. I believe my role allows me to inspire others to embrace an active lifestyle.
Being a giver has transformed my social dynamics as well. I have met incredible individuals who share the same passion for making a difference. The friendships I have built, the teamwork I’ve experienced, and the leadership skills I’ve developed have shaped me into a more compassionate and open-minded individual.
My greatest achievement at Sunway isn’t just in my personal accolades but in the lives I’ve touched through coaching, volunteering, and advocating for sports. These experiences have made me realise that giving is a cycle - what we offer to others eventually comes back to us in ways we least expect.
As a student-athlete, my journey is about more than just swimming. It is about using my platform to give, to inspire, and to grow alongside those around me. Because at the end of the day, true success is not measured by how fast I swim, but by how much I uplift those around me.
